Julen Ussia

Born in the Basque Country, his interest in materials and objects led him in 2011 to move to Barcelona to study Arts and Design at Escola Massana. He delved further into material experimentation, as well as into the processes of manual work, feeling akin to the crafts and the ways of doing and thinking typical of tradition with a will to generate new contemporary languages. He specialized in Applied Arts and found in ceramics an intense field of work.

In 2015 he studied the Master in Ceramics: Art and Function, at the University of the Basque Country, obtaining a diploma for the best academic record of his promotion.

He collaborates with artists and designers such as Koos Breen (NL), Max Enrich, Jorge Penades or CuratedBy. He has now settled in Barcelona, where he recently participated in Errata in Mast Books, an exhibition at New York Design Week. He works as a teacher at Escola Massana and ElTorn Barcelona, International Hub of Ceramics.

Recently he has started to explore alternative materials to continue hybridizing in what he does.
